The Gallatin R-5 Board of Education approved an extension of the superintendent’s contact for James Ruse during its regular meeting held Jan. 16.

A bid was approved for a new bus from Midwest Bus Sales at $60,371, minus $900 for a trade in, for a total of $59,471.

Monica Bonderer was hired as school nurse.

Bills in the amount of $338,000 were approved for payment; the ledger report was heard and investments were given at an interest rate of 1.85.

The board reviewed policy updates concerning MSBA.

The calendar for the 2003-04 school year was adopted. The starting date for school was set at Aug. 21 for all day with school tentatively set to be out on May 20.

The board received a technology plan for the next five years. The plan will be modified to include the “No Child Left Behind” regulations by the federal government.

Mr. Ruse notified board members of board training opportunities throughout the state.

The elementary roof underwent a warranty inspection with a report that all was fine.

Jan. 20 was scheduled as an inservice day for teachers. They were given the day off due to the school’s performance on the APR.
