Funeral services for Ola B. Ray, father of Ralph Ray of Coffey, were held at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service in St. Joseph. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. The family suggests memorial gifts to Hands of Hope Hospice.
Mr. Ola B. Ray, 85, St. Joseph, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at a St. Joseph hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Ray was born on Jan. 23, 1917, in Gentry County. He graduated from McFall high school.
During World War II, he served with the Army Air Corps in the European Theater.
Mr. Ray was engaged in farming prior to becoming a meat inspector for the United States Department of Agriculture in 1957. He retired from the U.S.D.A. in 1977.
Mr. Ray was a member of the McFall Baptist Church; a 50-year member of the McFall- Gentryville Masonic Lodge No. 125, A.F. & A.M., where he served as past master; and the Civilian Conservation Corps.
On Nov. 15, 1947, he married Eleanor L. Saxer in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Nettie (Bowman) Ray; and a sister, Anise Plowman Hulet.
Other survivors include two daughters, Helen Dobbs, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Alice Gibson, Agency; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
