This community was jolted into sadness this week when people learned that longtime Daviess County Treasurer Judy Carder is hospitalized with serious complications following a massive stroke.

Family responded to Judy’s call for help from her residence in Gallatin about 3 a.m. Monday. She was immediately transferred by ambulance and is now at KU Medical Center in Kansas City. Paralysis is evident and the first prognosis expressed by doctors was not encouraging. The extent of the damage caused by the stroke is not yet known.

Judy Carder, 57, is not only the longest tenured officeholder in the courthouse but is active in many community and school affairs. Ms. Carder has served as county treasurer since 1977.

Deputy Treasurer Tyna Morrison continues to operate the public office in Ms. Carder’s absence. The office will remain open, with neighboring officeholders sometimes assisting whenever appropriate since Ms. Morrison is also attending classes at MWSC, St. Joseph.
