Voting delegates representing Farm Bureau members from Daviess County were among the crowd attending Missouri Farm Bureau’s 88th annual meeting held in December at Osage Beach.

Nearly 1,500 farmers, ranchers and guests attended the meeting.

Daviess County Farm Bureau members who participated in the Missouri Farm Bureau annual meeting include Keith and Nancy Sutton, Danny and Kelly Nalle, and Dave and Tina Daniel.

The county achieved 2002 membership quota of over 319 members this year and seven gold stars for excellence in several program areas. Daviess County Farm Bureau was recognized for having top programs in Information, Commodities/Marketing, Local Affairs & Projects, Policy Development, Political Action, Legislative and Quota.

The voting delegates debated resolutions and passed official Farm Bureau policy for 2003. Reiterating the need for a comprehensive energy bill, delegates voted overwhelmingly to support a national energy policy that would include alternative fuels and provide permanent federal tax incentives for soy-based biodiesel and corn-based ethanol products.

They also voted to strengthen the rights of landowners in Missouri and across the nation in matters involving the taking of property through eminent domain and condemnation by utilities, government and other entities. Policy was approved on transportation, farm markets, and economic programs among many other topics.

Selected delegates from Missouri will present Missouri policy of national and international interest to voting delegates of the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual meeting in Tampa, Fla, in January.
