Green Hills Community Action Agency (GHCAA) Rental Assistance Program is available to meet local housing needs
The Green Hills Community Action Agency (GHCAA) Rental Assistance Program is available to meet local housing needs in the towns and cities in the nine Green Hills counties (Caldwell, Daviess, Grundy, Harrison, Linn, Livingston, Mercer, Putnam, and Sullivan) except for housing in the city limits of Brookfield, Chillicothe, and Marceline.
The program assists many elderly, handicapped, disabled, and low-income individuals and families obtain housing they can afford.
Funding for the GHCAA Rental Assistance Program has been approved by the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for 2003. Don Warren, GHCAA executive director, states that the funds totaling $1,457,100 will assist individuals and families who are on a limited income or who have experienced a loss of income to obtain affordable housing.
The program utilizes existing rental housing that is decent, safe, and in a sanitary condition and passes a housing quality standards inspection. If a family can meet program guidelines, lives in a rental unit that is decent, safe, and sanitary, and the owner will negotiate a lease agreement, households may be eligible where they presently reside.
Agency staff are available to provide information about the Rental Assistance Program to renters and landlords, can help individuals with applications and contracts, and assist with locating quality, affordable housing units.
Applications and information are available by contacting the GHCAA office in the county or residence, or by contacting the central office in Trenton at 660-359-3907 or 877-611-7600 and asking for rental assistance staff.
