City of Gallatin without electricity when truck hits utility pole

The city of Gallatin was without electricity for about two hours Saturday due to an accident east of Gallatin. According to Police Chief Jim Wycoff, at about 9:20 a.m. on Dec. 14 a flat bed pickup truck driven by Joey Chadwick, 16, of Gallatin went off the gravel road near the dog pound and hit a utility pole. The pole was broken off about three-quarters the way up. The top of the pole was hanging by the wires.
City Administrator Kathy Arnold said that due to two of Gallatin’s city employees being out of town, Jerry Bashford was contacted and was able to assist in starting the generator. Gary Hamilton and Scott Widner of Farmer’s Electric Cooperative helped replace the utility pole.
Everyone’s electricity was restored within about two hours, according to Mrs. Arnold. “We appreciate the cooperation of everyone who came together to get service back on as quickly as possible,” she said.
The accident was investigated by Sgt. Mark Richards and Chief Wycoff. An ambulance was called to the scene, but Mr. Chadwick refused treatment. The pickup truck came to rest on its side and had to be towed.
Summons is pending for uninsured vehicle.
The power outage that occurred Tuesday, Dec. 17, for about 20 minutes was not related to Saturday’s accident. Mrs. Arnold said that outage was caused by a problem with NW Electric Power Cooperative out of Cameron.
