Circuit Court

Law Day was conducted on Nov. 13. The following cases were heard by Judge Warren McElwain:

In State of Missouri vs. Lori A. Paulno, the defendant entered a plea of not guilty to Count I – Murder, first degree, Class A felony, and Count II – abandonment of a corpse, Class D felony.

The court denied the defendant’s request for bond, and Paulno remains incarcerated.

Lori Paulno was charged with first degree murder in September after the remains of her husband, Kirk G. Paulno, were identified. The remains were found behind a house on State Hwy. MM in August, at which time she was charged with abandonment of a corpse. Mrs. Paulno allegedly shot her husband and then burned the body in July, 2001.

In State vs. William J. Kennedy, the defendant plead guilty to the Class D felony of property damage, 1st degree. After the pre-sentence investigation was filed by Probation and Parole, Kennedy was sentenced to 4 years in the department of corrections. Kennedy was involved in a late night car chase on April 28, 2002, which ended when he struck and damaged a bridge on 280th street in Daviess County.

Samuel Hamilton was granted a dissolution of marriage from Julia Hamilton.

Douglas Earl Looney was granted a dissolution of marriage from Tracy L. Looney, with her maiden name Gordon restored.

In State vs. Randy Lee Laughlin, the defendant admitted probation violations from an original charge of non-support, Class De felony. Probation was revoked, and he was sentenced to 2 years in the department of corrections, execution of sentence suspended, and placed on probation for 5 years.

Deborah K. Martin admitted probation violations on an original charge of passing bad checks, Class D felony. The court allowed her to remain on probation.

Brian Kenneth Myers plead guilty to an amended charge of trespass, first degree, Class B misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 6 months in the county jail, with credit given for time served.

Robert D. Kirk III had previously plead guilty to an amended charge of robbery, 2nd degree, Class B felony. After the pre-sentence investigation was filed by Probation and Parole, he was sentenced to 8 years in the department of corrections. The court retains jurisdiction under 559.115 RSMo, and recommends institutional treatment.

Dustin L. Orr entered plea of guilty to possession of a controlled substance, Class C felony, and a pre-sentence investigation was ordered.

A warrant was issued for Peter Rabe Dilks for failure to appear on a charge of criminal non- support, Class D felony. Bond was set at $7,500.

A warrant was issued for Ronald Craig Esterline for failure to appear on two counts of Class D felony non-support. Bond was set at $50,000 cash.

Co., petition for damages; Staci Heldenbrand vs. Rusty Heldenbrand, dissolution of marriage;

Marriage licenses issued: Larry Eugene Adams, Jamesport, and Sandra Jean Hardin, St. Joseph.
