Santa Clause will make an appearance at Dockery Park with free candy for the kiddies, according to Donald Smith, president of the Gallatin Park Board. The decision to invite Santa was made during the board’s regular meeting held Oct. 21. Old Saint Nick will be at the park from 6-9 p.m. Monday through Friday, Dec. 9-13, and from 12 noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14.

The children may also have their picture taken with the Jolly Old Elf. Weather or not a fee is charged for the photos will depend on whether the board receives adequate donations to cover the expense.

In other business at the Park Board meeting, Diane McLey requested money to buy a paint stripper for the soccer field. The cost would be approximately $115. She also asked for money to hire referees for the soccer games. The board passed a motion to hire six referees for the length of the soccer season at $10 per weekend. A motion was also passed for a spring soccer season.

A discussion was held about replacing the counter top and sink in the kitchen at the community building. An estimate was given. A motion was made for David McLey and Chris Henderson to repair the sink and the cabin within a reasonable cost. A window of the building will be fixed by Harmon Glass at a cost of $50.

The board discussed limits for the cost of renting the community building for non-profit organizations. A change to the charge of renting for next year was made. The building cost for rent next year will be $35.

Bids on mowing were discussed and tabled for a later date.

David McLey, treasurer, gave a report on expenses and money in the bank account. Total expenses paid were $1,782.29. A motion was made and passed to approve the park budget.

A certificate was given to Joe Griffin for appreciation for the work he has done at the park. Mr. Griffin will fill in the holes at the play yard.

A thank you note will be sent to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for moving the trees.

Donnie Smith and Sharon Berten will inquire about Christmas lights at the park.

The next meeting of the Gallatin Park Board will be at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 18.

The Gallatin Park Board had one guest present, Diane McLey, and board members Donnie Smith, David McLey, Stephanie Cole, Sharon Berten, Joe Griffin, Sue Downey and Chris Henderson.
