The program relies on hunters who harvest deer
“Share the Harvest” is a locally supported program where hunters help to feed the hungry in our county. The program relies on hunters who harvest deer during the seasons but don’t need or want the venison for their own consumption. Instead of letting it go to waste, ti can be used for a better purpose.
This year, and for the last two years, Rains Natural Meats will be the collection and processing center.
Donating deer is very simple. After harvesting a deer and taking it to the collection center, a hunter will pay an initial processing fee and be given a coupon for their donation. The coupons are sent to the Conservation Federation of Missouri (CFM) by the processor and the hunters are reimbursed by the CFM. Last year over 76,000 pounds of venison was distributed throughout the state.
The Gallatin Men’s Club, for the third consecutive year, will be accepting donations in support of “Share the Harvest.” The Director of the Daviess County Green Hills Community Action Agency oversees the storage and the distribution of the donated venison.
In the last two years over 2,000 pounds of venison has been distributed throughout the area. All of the proceeds collected to offset the cost of the processing and to provide the necessary storage for the venison until it can be distributed.
Members of the Gallatin Men’s Club and the Green Hills Community Action Agency express gratitude to the businesses and individuals of Daviess County for their past sponsorship of the program, as well as the hunters themselves.
