The Winston R-6 Board of Education met Sept. 18 with the following in attendance: Gary Caldwell, Melvin Lee, Chretta Mastin, Bob Clark, David Neff, Shelly Mason, Wendell Burns, David Michael and Lisa Bielby.

The board reviewed the amendment to the 2002-03 budget and tabled the issue until the next meeting.

Elementary Principal Lisa Bielby reported enrollment of 106 K-6 and 16 pre-schoolers, with an attendance rate of 98% for August. She also reported that Grandparents Day was to be held on Sept. 20. High School Principal David Michael reported enrollment of 83 in grades 7-12, with an attendance rate of 97% for the month of August.

The board reviewed program reports on follow up data, the guidance program and federal program. They reviewed and approved the calendar of events.

The board offered an extra duty contract to Wayne Alexander as co-sponsor of the senior class. They addressed a concern by a parent about the current dress code and are going to review the dress code at the October board meeting. A thank you letter was issued to a local patron who donated wiring and air conditioning for the elementary building.

The next meeting of the Winston R-6 Board will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 17.
