A group of Pattonsburg R-2 art students were given individual Conservation Creativity Awards from the St. Joseph Northwest Regional Office of the Missouri Conservation Department last week. The students put together a display for the St. Joseph headquarters that was up throughout the summer months.

The projects incorporate various stylized birds and plants from our local area into layered cut paper Polish Wycinanki designs. They were the culmination of studies of different cultures, drawing, the application of a variety of symmetries, and cut collage work.

The students were enrolled in art during the 2000-2001 school year under the direction of Mrs. Carlena Leeper. They are Chelsey Lowrey, Kelly Cornett, Adam Albert, Krystyna Fore, Mary Thatcher, Nicole Slobodnik, Curtis Goble, Brennan Leeper, James Green, Lisa West, Bret Hangley, Whitney Mason, Alicia Kimberley, Tasha Tucker, Jason Cornett, Drayson Leeper, Katelyn Hulet, Melissa Spiers, Joshua Sherrill, Scott Sweiger and Andrew Hulet.
