The Kidder-Altamont-Winston (K.A.W.) Fire Department reports a productive August. The interior meeting room at the station in Kidder has been cleaned up and is mostly finished. Carpeting and baseboard are next on the agenda. The Altamont station was able to clean out a lot of accumulated trash and get the donated exercise equipment ready for use. The Winston station finished a tanker and squad and put them in service.

K.A.W. had no fire calls but was kept busy with 17 medical calls, three rescues, and one service call. Several of the department’s members will be starting E.M.T. classes this month. With the increase in medical calls for the area, the training will allow K.A.W. to better serve the community.

If serving the community is something you feel the need to do, but are unsure how you can, contact one of the fire department members to find out more about becoming a volunteer.
