The Daviess County Chautauqua will be held Sept. 13-15 on the Gallatin square. Friday night activities will kick off with musical entertainment. Saturday offers a full slate of activities, culminating in featured musical entertainment on the main stage. Sunday’s highlights include the flea market on the square and the Chautauqua Junior Rodeo at Dockery Park.

The date of the Chautauqua is determined each year by the day which has been established for the Gallatin flea market, which is the third Sunday in September. Chautauqua activities are scheduled to coincide with the flea market weekend. This year, Friday and Saturday of Chautauqua weekend actually fall into the second week of the month, which has caused some confusion about the date; however, Chautauqua has always been set on the weekend of the third Sunday in September.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, the activities begin at 9 a.m. with the baby show. The talent show is at 11 a.m., and the evening parade is at 5 p.m. The rotary jail will be open for tours, and an art exhibit will be on display in the courthouse. Local vocal talent will perform throughout the day under a tent on the south side of the square. Main stage entertainment will be presented throughout the day.

The Gallatin Theatre League will present “Meet the Flintrocks” at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, and at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday at Courter Theater.

Plans for the Chautauqua are still being finalized, and a full schedule of events will be announced at a later date. For further information, you may call 660-663-2154.
