Superintendent Ron DeShon stated that $10,000 has been set aside for the curbing project at the new ball field during the regular meeting of the Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education held July 17. The Park Board has requested the curbing be done as soon as possible. Mr. DeShon will enter into an agreement with the lowest bidding contractor to form and shape the curbing.
The district’s bus department has been recognized by the State Department of Transportation for excellence in maintenance and efficiency. They will be awarded a plaque from the state.
Pre-enrollment was set for Aug. 12-13. School begins Aug. 21.
Heather Kunert was offered a contract for second grade teacher for the 2002-2003 school year.
The board accepted the resignation of Carlena Leeper.
Carlena Leeper addressed the board about purchasing her kiln for the art department; money from the class of 1999 to be used for a flag pole and possible a plaque; and money in the art fund for supplies or art projects; and some family issues. Mr. DeShon will look into purchasing a school flag with funds to possibly come from the class of 1999.
The board agreed to transfer $70,000 from MOSIPMM to Fund I.
Bills were approved as presented.
Superintendent Ron DeShon presented the 2002-2003 budget. The July 17 budget was accepted by the board as the current budget.
The district audit is scheduled for Aug. 2.
Various MSIP sections were approved.
Six board members were presented with certifications by Mr. DeShon.
Project Construct was approved as the preschool curriculum program.
MAP testing will continue for the two areas not funded by the state.

A tax levy meeting was set for 6 p.m. on July 25.
Discussion of Board Policy Manuel Section 3000 was tabled.
Mrs. Rucker presented the revised Elementary Student Handbooks to the board for review.
Enrollment for K-6 has been set for the same day and time as the high school.
Mr. Wright gave an update on summer school. Approximately 60 students were enrolled. Field trips were made to Living History Farms on July 18 and a pizza party at Bethany on July 25.
Chase Cornett traveled to Minneapolis, Minn., for the FCCLA National Convention. He has served the past year as the National Vice-President of STAR Events. Also attending were his parents and advisor.
Jonathon Lowrey attended Boys State and Bess Sweiger attended Girls State.
Changes to the Junior/Senior High School Student Handbooks were accepted.
Mr. Wright will offer a contract for the position of art teacher.
The next regular meeting will be Aug. 14.
