Nilmarth Theodore Brown

Nilmarth Theodore Brown of Excelsior Springs passed away Friday, August 2, 2002. Visitation and services were August 3 at the First Methodist Church, Excelsior Springs, and burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Excelsior Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Nilmarth was born March 28, 1922, in Jameson, Missouri, to Frank and Pauline (Whitt) Brown. After graduation from Jameson High School, Mr. Brown enlisted in the US Navy and served as Pharmacist Mate, 3rd Class, on the USS Miami in the Pacific arena of World War II.. After the war, he worked 35 years as a pharmacist assistant at the Veterans Administration Hospitals in Excelsior Springs and Kansas City and, after retirement, at the Excelsior Springs Hospital

In 1942, he married Margaret June Musick and they had two sons, Nile and Sam. Nilmarth was a member of the American Legion, Rotary International, and First United Methodist Church, where he was part of the Second Milers group. He was an avid follower of all Excelsior Springs and Shawnee Mission sporting events.

Nilmarth’s parents and one sister, Cuma North, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margaret; siblings Betty Tingler, Jameson, and John and Elizabeth Brown, Independence; sons and daughters-in-law, Nile and Gail Brown, Excelsior Springs, and Sam and Cindy Brown, Overland Park, Kansas.

Grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Maggie and Mack Brown of Overland Park, Kansas; Aaron Brown of Oak Grove, his wife Karla and children Alec, Tyler, and Shelby; and Amy McCubbin of Blue Springs, her husband Ron and children Abigail and Jacob.

Arrangements were by Polly Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Missouri.
