Four drivers came from inside second row starts and two drivers repeated their Mid-Season Championship runs of the previous week in a quick and very exciting racing program at the three-eights mile Winston Speedway last Saturday.
This week the speedway features a return of the O’Reilly MLRA Super late models for heats, B features and a 40-lap main event. It will be staged along with the normal Winston weekly racing program of five classes of cars for heat races and five features. Racing begins at 7 p.m. with the hot laps.
Mike Ryun of Kansas City captured his ninth feature and his second straight in the Super Stock class coming from the pole, passing Kearney’s Vic Austin and cruising to the win. Steven Klinger of Browning came from the second row inside and got a quick lead in rolling to his second straight feature win and third of the season in the Davis Wholesale Floor Covering B
modified feature.
Jim Hopkins of Excelsior Springs finally got around leader Kevin Burns of Kansas City with four laps remaining and won his fifth Charger feature of the season and Brookfield’s Dale Marriott got his first win in the Woody’s Dodge Jeep Chrysler A modified feature as he held off point leader Dean Wray of Trenton, winner of 10 feature shows this season.
Andy Harper of Cameron, who dropped down to the Factory Stock class after running Super Stocks, held off last week’s Mid-Season champ Mark Wirth of Chariton, Ia., and current point leader Frank McCabe of Milan to win his first feature of the season. A season high 89 cars rolled into the pit area as nearly 50 employees and guests of Woody’s Dodge Jeep Chrysler looked on
at their special Saturday night sponsored program.
All feature winners but Ryun also won their heats and Chillicothe’s Lonnie Hibner held off Dean Wray in their modified heat.
