Ron Burns of Gallatin won first place in the men age 55-59 category in Shawnee Mission, Kan., triathalon on July 14. A pretty amazing feat since Mr. Burns didn’t even know how to swim 1 ½ years ago. Mr. Burns performed his personal best to date at the event. He finished in one hour and 26 minutes. The triathalon included 600 yards swimming in an open lake; 11 miles biking; and a 2 3/4 miles run. There were over 800 participants in the Shawnee Mission triathalon. Mr. Burns will compete in another triathalon coming up this Saturday in St. Joseph.
