The Gold Girls all-stars, behind 48% shooting from the field, defeated the Purple all-stars, 82-65, Saturday night in the opening game of the 11th Annual Lions District 26F Basketball Classic held at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. The Purple Boys all-stars rolled to a 98-70 victory despite a record-setting performance by one of the Gold players.

The Gold Girls led the entire game after Purple briefly held a one- point advantage early in the 1st quarter. The Gold team used inside power and up-tempo transition game to keep Purple at bay after several times building double digit leads. Maryville’s Erin Lohafer (24 pts., 18 rbds.) and Trenton’s Casey Beavers (12 pts., 9 rbds.) gave Gold a decided inside advantage. Guards Amy Sullins of Stanberry (17 pts.), Katie Barnes of Trenton (12 pts., 5 rbds.), Jodi Esely of Savannah (11 pts., 10 rbds.) also scored in double figures for Gold.

Gallatin’s Erin Sweatman started at point guard for the Gold team, scored two points, dished out 4 assists and registered a pair of steals.

Savannah’s Angela Campbell hit five 3-pointers, a new All-Star Classic record, and finished with 17 points to lead the Purple. Sabrina Sample of King City added 11 points for Purple, which shot 32% from the field for the game. Pattonsburg’s Nena Woodward scored 4 points and dished out a pair of assists for the Purple team.

The Purple boys built a 48-25 half time lead and finished out their victory with a 33-point 4th quarter scoring effort. LeBlond’s Atha Riley led six Purple players into double figures with 16 points. Braymer’s Jake Haley notched 14 points and LeBlond’s John McAndrew and Worth County’s Chris Healy each canned 13. St. Joe Central’s T. J. Spire-Sweet added 12 points for Purple.

Gallatin’s Robert Heldenbrand scored 10 points for Purple with 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

Eight different Purple team players combined for a All-Star Classic 11 treys.

Stewartsville’s Chris Motsinger hit 10 of 17 field goals and 6 of 8 free throws on the way to a new All-Star Classic scoring record 26 points. He also led all rebounders with 16 boards.

Pattonsburg’s Chase Cornett scored two points, grabbed 5 rebounds and registered one steal for the Gold team.
