Two arrests were made this week after the sheriff’s office received information about possible drug activity at 22700 State Highway K, north of Gallatin, on May 29.

Sheriff Heldenbrand, Deputy Watson, and Corporal Matt Heits of the Highway Patrol responded to the residence and made two arrests for possession of drug paraphernalia. A search warrant was then executed and a search conducted by the sheriff’s department, Officer Wilhoit with the canine unit of the Highway Patrol and the DEA. The officers found equipment commonly used in the production of methamphetamine. The Department of Natural Resources, Hazardous Waste Division, was called in to clean up the scene.

G. Michael Swofford, 29, Gallatin, was charged with the Class B felony of attempting to manufacture a controlled substance. Bond was set at $50,000, later reduced to $25,000. Swofford was released upon posting bond.

Laurie E. Baker, 19, Princeton, was charged with the Class A misdemeanor of possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to use and Class C felony possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $35,250, and she is being held at Midwest Security Housing in Pattonsburg.

Arraignment for both subjects was held June 3. The case is still under investigation, and more charges may be pending.
