When he lined up on the outside of the 10th row in the 20th spot for the A modified feature, there were those who asked if Dean Wray could make his way through the field and win yet another feature event at the Winston Speedway.

The Trenton , Mo., veteran driver did exactly that as he won for the fifth time at the three-eights mile oval, 10 miles north of Cameron on 1-35 at exit 64.

Jim Peeler of Milan won for the second straight week in the Davis Floor Covering B modified division and Jim Hopkins of Excelsior Springs also won for the second straight racing program as he captured the Charger class. Both Peeler and Hopkins won their respective heat races to become double winners on the night. Hopkins also took over the point lead in his division.

George Burnett of Cameron, driving the familiar No.23 car won the super stock feature and maintained his point lead in that class. Steve Adams of Cliariton, Iown, checking in for the first time at the speedway got two big breaks and won the new factory stock 12-lap feature event.

As for Wray, he weaved his way through six cars on the first four laps, was half way through the field at the midway point of the 20-lap main event and then took advantage of a yellow caution before passing Brookfield’s Dale Marriott and Richmond’s Teri VanTrump two laps from the end in capturing the Woody’s Dodge Jeep Chrysler A main event.

On a beautiful full moon night, the largest crowd of the season watched 82 cars fill a quick racing program that concluded on a Memorial holiday weekend by 9:50 p.m.

This Saturday an extra $2,000 goes into the purse for the Wix Filters~Big A Auto Parts Shoot-Out at the speedway with $750 to win the A modified, $500 to win the B modified, $400 to win the Charger class, $400 to win the Super Stock, and $200 to win the Facton’ Stock.
