The rain may have halted the racing program at the Winston Speedway on May 11, but nothing changed for Dean Wray of Trenton when the cars hit the three-eights mile dirt oval on Saturday night for the regular weekly program.

Racing for only the second time in five weeks, Wray continued his domination in the A modified class as he ran away with the feature, won his heat and chalked up a feature win for the fourth time this season.

A season high 86 race cars checked into the pit area, including a season high 18 factory stocks and 20 B modifieds. There were also 20 super stocks, 13 chargers and 15 A modifieds

Wray was the only repeater from the May 4 program and was one of two double winners on the night as he took his heat and then rolled to an easy win in the Woody’s Dodge Jeep Chrysler A modified feature after dueling with Dale Marriott of Brookfield for five early laps.

Terry Waterbury, last year’s point champion and current point leader in the Hobby Stock, got back in the groove after a two-race absence and won his second feature of the season. A time limit caught the yellow-flag, crash-filled Super Stock feature that got only seven laps in before the 25-minute time limit for the 15-lap event. Ron Hill of Turney won his first ever Super Stock feature at the track.

Jim Peeler of Milan overcame nine yellow flags and weathered the time limit in the Davis Floor Covering B modified class. He held off point leader Steve Klinger of Browning and Clint Baker of Meadville. Peeler also won his heat. Jim Hopkins of Excelsior Springs won for the first time in the 14-car Charger division.

Kids bicycle races were held for the first time this season and took place at intermission at the Winston Speedway, 10 miles north of Cameron on !-35 at exit 64. Racing is staged in five divisions each Saturday night with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m.
