The John Philip Sousa award was presented to Scott Wilkinson. The Patrick Gilmore award was given to Brice Garnett.
The Gallatin R-5 spring concert was presented by students from grades 5-12 on May 9 under the direction of David Schoeneck. Various awards and honors were given throughout the performance.
The John Philip Sousa award was presented to Scott Wilkinson. The Patrick Gilmore award was given to Brice Garnett. These two senior awards are sponsored by Instrumentalist Magazine. The U.S. Marine Corps Semper Fidelis award went to Erin Sweatman.
Additional recognition was given to Rachel Toney and Laura McCann for participating in the North Central Bandmasters Clinic Band. Laura McCann was also recognized for participating in Four State Honor Band, where she sat second chair, and she received the Instrumentalist Magazine musicianship award.
High school band members who received letters were Aaron Everly, Katrina Calhoon, Brice Garnett, Emily Gay, Brittney Hixson, Jessica King, Caleb Leeper, D.J. Harper, Mariah Gibson, Laura McCann, Keira Story, Rachel Toney, Erin Sweatman, Scott Wilkinson, Haleigh Tague, Kelsie Parker, Katie Heldenbrand, and Jenny Youtsey.
At the junior high level, Kara Kloepping received the Instrumentalist Magazine Merit Award, and Kate Jarboe earned the Director’s Choice award.
The flag corps members were also recognized. They are Erin Sweatman, Jessica King, Whitney Wright, Allison Lockridge, Katie Ward, Brittney Hixson, Michelle Chadwick, and Kari Dickinson.
The concert closed with the 88 members of the high school and junior high bands combining to perform John Philip Sousa’s patriotic march, “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
