Gallatin R-5 girls and boys track squads rolled through Class 1A, District 6 competition Monday, qualifying 21 athletes for this weekend’s state meet and easily winning district team titles. The Lady Bulldogs will send 11 individuals to state after piling up 158 points for a second straight team title. The Bulldogs, with 10 state qualifiers, won their second straight district championship with a 150 point total.

The 100th Annual Missouri State High School Track and Field Championship will be held Friday and Saturday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium on the campus of Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

Bulldog highlights for the day included a pair of new GHS records. Robert Heldenbrand left the 1A field flat-footed in the high jump, leaping to a new GHS boys record of 6’4″. Syd Weybrew held the previous record of 6’3″ set back in 1986. Second place on Monday fell to Tri-County’s Logan Kimberling, who cleared 6′.

The girls 4×200-meter relay team of Keira Story, Katie Ward, Kayli Burrell and Amanda Boehm set a new school record of 1:57.50, clipping the old mark of 1:58.08 they set last year. The Lady Bulldogs were over 2 seconds better Monday than runnerup Linn County.

Girls 1600m run — Davitt, 2nd, 6:14.70. Boys 1600m run — Story, 2nd, 5:15.80. Girls 4x100m relay — Burrell, Boehm, Cori Nichols, Brittney Hixson, 2nd, 56.60.

Girls 400m dash — Burrell, 2nd, 1:07.20. Boys 400m dash — Youtsey, 2nd, 52.90. Boys 800m run — Osgood, 2nd, 2:06.80. Girls 3200m run — Davitt, 1st, 13:49.90. Girls 4x400m relay — Burrell, Story, Hixson, Ward, 1st, 4:31. Boys 4x400m relay — Youtsey, Adam Whitney, Osgood, Heldenbrand, 1st 3:39.60. Boys Discus — Justin Kerns, 2nd, 122’10”. Girls shot put — Cassie Carder, 2nd, 30’3″. Boys shot put — Heldenbrand, 1st, 45’4.5″. Boys high jump — Heldenbrand, 1st, 6’4″. Girls triple jump — Love, 2nd, 30’9.5″. Girls pole vault — Ward, 1st, 8′; Nichols, 2nd, 7′. Boys pole vault — Nichols, 1st, 10′; Whitney, 2nd, 9′.

Final team standings saw Gallatin’s girls beat runnerup Linn County, 158 to 132. Gallatin’s boys swept past runnerup Princeton, 150 to 89.

Gallatin’s presence at the state meet will be felt both days. The Bulldogs’ events, 14 on Friday, begin at 11 a.m. with girls pole vault. Saturday offers a possible 15 competitions for the Bulldogs, ending around 4:30 p.m. with the finals of the last event, the girls 4x400m relay.

Skeens win 400m

Junior Jhona Skeens will carry the banner for North Daviess High School at this weekend’s state meet. Skeens won the district 400- meter dash in 1:06.40 to account for the Knights’ only qualifying berth in the meet. She will race in the state prelims at 3:50 p.m. on Friday.

Gilman City will be represented at the state meet by the boys second place (48.0) at district 4×100-meter relay team consisting of Caleb Wilson, Matt Houser, Luke Crump and Jacob Wilson. Their preliminary race will be at 2:55 p.m. on Friday.
