Malorie Allen, daughter of Creed and Kristy Allen of Nixa, recently received two distinguished awards, one for academic achievement and citizenship, and one for poetry. She is the granddaughter of Sandy Dickson of Gallatin and the great-granddaughter of Leota Hangley of Pattonsburg and Wayne and Ruby Teel of Gallatin.

Malorie was recognized at an all-school assembly at Nixa High School on March 28 with a Teacher’s Choice Award. Each teacher at NHS chose one student that exemplified the qualities of friendliness, honesty, hard work, and good behavior to receive an award.

Malorie was chosen by one of her teachers based on her “outstanding spirit, kindness to others, diligent effort in all she does, and positive attitude.” Malorie was presented with a certificate and a medallion.

Malorie was also honored at the Southwest Missouri Regional Language Arts Division (LAD) Fair. Two of Malorie’s poetry pieces (a haiku and a short free verse) where chosen by the Nixa High School Language Arts Department to be entered into the LAD Fair. Malorie’s short free verse poem “Weeping Willows” own third at the competition in the ninth and tenth grade division.

Malorie is a freshman at Nixa High School and is also active in music and sports. She plays the violin, piano and clarinet and is on the Nixa High School swim team. She is also the granddaughter of George and Connie Allen of Hamilton.
