Summer School I for grades first through sixth was set for May 20 to June 8 during the regular meeting of the North Daviess R-3 Board of Education held April 8. Students will take May 27 off for Memorial Day. Summer School II will be July 8 to Aug. 2.

Election results were accepted during Monday’s meeting. Newly elected board members, Chris Nelson, Beverly Hunter and Donald Baker, were sworn in. The board was reorganized with David Iddings elected as president; Donald Baker as vice president; Beverly Hunter as secretary; and Debbie Ray as treasurer.

The financial statement was reported by Pat Heaps. Bills were paid as presented.

The board approved participating in Career Ladder for the 2002-03 school year.

Superintendent Julie Kirby’s revised framework for the board to conduct program evaluations was accepted.

Alan Koch’s bid for lawn mowing was accepted.

The list of graduates was approved.

Sheri Steinman, elementary lead teacher, reported North Daviess tournament made $3,100 and purchased gravel for the new parking area north of the school. Grades three and four are now receiving tutoring in preparation for the MAP test which begins on April 22.

Todd Willhite, high school principal, reported students were receiving tutoring for the MAP test. Mr. Willhite reported that Crystal Cook and Nicole Ray received I ratings at Music Festival and would advance to state. The chemistry class placed second at the Chemathon with Jimmy Hunt placing third individual.

Mrs. Kirby presented the board with times and suggestions for MSIP, including reflooring the high school kitchen floor. The calendar was adjusted for early dismissal on May 10 at 12:40 p.m.

After returning from executive session, the board offered Becky Morris a contract for an elementary teacher position.

The next regular meeting of the R-3 Board of Education is at 6:30 p.m. on May 13 in Coffey.

Board members present at the regular meeting of the North Daviess R-3 Board of Education on April 8, were David Iddings, Donald Baker, Bob Griffin, Beverly Hunter, Rhonda Sweet, Debbie Ray. Kelly Hightree was absent. Also present were Superintendent Julie Kirby and board secretary Beverly Hunter, Todd Willhite, Sheri Steinman, Penny Roberts and Pat Heaps.
