Members of the Gallatin FFA Chapter excelled at the Northwest District FFA contests in Cameron on April 4. Nine members of the Chapter participated in the contest. The FFA Knowledge Team consisting of Cassie Carder, Erin Croy, Aaron Everly and Emily Gay placed second and advanced to state competition. Cassie was the second high individual and Emily tied for third high individual.
In speaking contests Erin Cory was the district winner in FFA Creed Speaking. Rachel Peery placed third in the Agriculture I speaking contest and Michelle Chadwick placed first in the Agriculture II speaking contest. Brook Carder placed third in the advanced public speaking contest and Mariah Gibson placed fourth in the extemporaneous speaking contest. Erin and Michelle will advance to state competition in April in Columbia.
Area Awards Night big success for FFA
Members of the Gallatin FFA Chapter traveled to Chillicothe on April 9 for the Area II Awards night. Over 30 members and guests from Gallatin were in attendance.
Highlights of the evening included Jo Ann Tummons receiving her Star Area Farmer plaque and Brook Carder being inducted as the new Area II FFA president. Members from Gallatin received over 40 awards during the ceremony.
The awards included 21 proficiency awards for member projects; five awards for public speaking; and seven awards for record keeping. Recognition was also given for the second place FFA Knowledge Team and the second place Rituals Team.
In addition Gallatin had 10 members receive the Area Farmer Degree. These included Kim Clevenger, Ricky Hendricks, Robert Mazur, Blake Parker, Austin Story, Zack Strange, Jo Ann Tummons, Adam Whitney, Scott Wilkinson and Brian Youtsey.
The evening closed with a cake and punch reception hosted by the Gallatin Chapter. Mr. and Mrs. Brad Tummons and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Carder helped to prepare the reception.
FFA sends eight teams to state
Members of the Gallatin FFA Chapter had a successful day at the District Agriculture Contest in Maryville on April 2. The chapter sent 13 teams to the competition. Several teams placed near the top of the contests and qualified for state competition.
The Poultry Team placed second and Erin Croy was the third high individual in the contest. Emily Gay and Kelsie Parker were also in the top 10 judges.
The Entomology Team placed third, as did the Agriculture Sales Team. The Dairy Cattle Team placed fourth and Justin Harlow was the third high individual in the contest. The Ag Mechanics Team finished fifth in their contest.
The Horse Judging Team placed sixth and the Dairy Foods Team placed eighth. The Meats Team finished ninth. All of these groups qualified for state competition. The Forestry Team finished eighth and was the alternate to state.
The Chapter also sponsored teams in Soils, Livestock, Farm Management and Agronomy.
