Gallatin R-5 Board of Education convened in a special meeting to organize the new board members on April 4.

During their regular meeting March 14, the board went over teacher evaluations and extended contracts. Mr. Hixson was present on behalf of the CTA salary committee. The CTA asked for $1,000 to be added to the base salary. A second proposal was made to add $750 to the base with lanes and steps increased by $25 each.

Teachers will receive no base raise at the present time; however, teachers are expected to receive raises later in June, after legislatures finish their session at the end of May.

Bills in the amount of $177,000 were approved for payment.

The board went over a presentation of the preliminary budget. Details regarding the budget remain vague until more information is obtained from the state’s legislators. As of now the budget reflects a negative balance of $200,000. The board and administration will work to bring the budget in line.

The board discussed financial needs for next year with the top priority being health insurance increases. Investments were given and the ledger was discussed.

The board discussed the fact that grade enrollment for the past seven years has declined, with the school down an average of 25-30 students over that period.

The board went over locker upgrades and work on the softball and football restrooms.
