Funeral services for Drew Lee Wilson will be held at 1 p.m. today, April 10, at the First Baptist Church in Gallatin with burial to be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gallatin. A death notice appears on page 7 in this edition.
Drew and his father, Darrell Wilson, had planned to attend a circus on Saturday. Mr. Wilson told authorities that Drew awoke while his father showered and soon began playing with toys while taking his own bath. When Mr. Wilson left briefly to get clothed, he returned to find Drew laying face down in the bath tub.
Efforts to revive the boy failed despite Mr. Wilson’s knowledge and use of CPR. Ambulance responders Jason Smith and Verna Osborne answered the 911 call recorded at approximately 7:15 a.m.
Mr. Wilson met ambulance responders with the boy as they arrived, hoping to keep the sight of the boy’s death away from two other pre-school children also of the home. He was taken to Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
The body eventually was transported to the Jackson County Medical Examiners office in Kansas City. An autopsy report is still pending.
