The Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education decided to build two display cases, one for athletics and one for academics, during its regular meeting held Monday, March 18.

All photographs, athletics and academics, are limited to 5×7 inches for individuals and 8×10 inches for teams. Individuals recognized in athletics by MSHSAA for all-state honors or awards that take place on a medal stand will have their photograph displayed in the trophy case. All teams to win a conference, district, or state championship will have their photograph displayed in the trophy case.

Academic awards to be displayed will include all organizations recognized by the Board of Education. Academic pictures will be displayed one year past graduation and then displayed in the appropriate department.

Each department will be responsible for displaying and maintaining picturers and must seek approval from the board for any changes to this policy. A rotation for trophies other than conference, district, or state will be implemented. Plaques for 30 and Above ACT winners and Missouri Scholar winners will be displayed with student’s name and year of achievement.

All current pictures will be reduced to appropriate size and displayed according to the guidelines established by the new board policy.

A motion carried to issue an interim change of placement for Charles Henson for the remainder of the 2002 school year.

During the financial report, Superintendent Ron DeShon presented the financial report and balances. Motion carried to transfer $50,000 from MOSIPMM into Fund I; and to transfer $55,000 from MOSIPMM into Fund I.

Bills were paid as presented.

During new business, the condition of the flag poles was brought up. The flag poles will be painted and repaired by graduation. Graduation will be at 2 p.m. on May 12.

Mr. DeShon reported on the closing of the Cameron Special School. There was discussion about the requirement of the district to provide an education for special needs students. A motion passed that students who require special needs education be sent to a state school.

A curriculum development plan was approved.

The resignation of Vivian Bowman, Title I teacher, will be effective at the end of the 2002 school year.

Mrs. Brown informed the board that by rotating a few key elementary teachers, the need to hire a replacement Title I teacher would be eliminated at an estimated savings to the district of $20,000- $30,000.

The preschool age was limited to four-years-old.

Summer school will begin July 8-25, Monday through Thursday, with Mrs. Brown as coordinator.

The contract for a speech therapist for 2002-2003 school year was tabled.

Guaranty Bank and Trust was accepted as custodian of the district’s accounts.

Information was presented for the next Board Certification (MARE) meetings. Mr. DeShon suggested that the board members elected on the April ballot as well as the current board attend the one day meeting on May 17.

During administrative reports, Elementary Principal Judy Brown gave the results of the spelling bee held Feb. 21. Pattonsburg’s Aleah Sperry won first place for the second year in a row.

The fifth and sixth graders will be in the North Daviess, Gallatin, and Winston basketball tournaments. The parent/teacher conference had 78% attendance and Title I had 68% attendance.

During MAP day, the K-6 teachers developed MAP packets. These were then used in the classroom.

High School Principal Mark Wright reported that the Band Carnival was a success with over $500 raised for band and choir. Parent/teacher conferences were held Thursday with a turnout of 65%. This was a lower attendance than the Fall conferences.

Golf and track practices have started. The dance team performed at the State Basketball Tournament. A group of young people will be performing April 4 for grades 7-12. Gilman City students will also be attending. North Daviess and Winston were invited to attend, but declined.

After executive session, the board voted to renew the contracts of salaried teachers.
