The accident occurred as Mrs. Dixon was walking
Joyce Dixon, 68, Jamesport, died as a result of injuries she received when she was struck by an automobile at about 4:45 p.m. on Friday, March 29.
The accident occurred as Mrs. Dixon was walking south with her husband, Bill, along the west edge of Route U, about three miles southeast of Jamesport. A 1989 Ford Probe driven by Blake Furne, 17, Birmingham, rounded a curve and lost control. The car slid across the roadway and struck Mrs. Dixon.
Mrs. Dixon was pronounced dead at Wright Memorial Hospital by Grundy County Coroner Tom Eads.
Mr. Furne, who was being held in the Grundy County Jail, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the first degree and driving while intoxicated. He posted $50,000 bond and waived a preliminary hearing. His trial is set for April 11 in Division I Court.
The accident was investigated by Tpr. J.A. Pithan, assisted by Tpr. C.M. Cox, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department and the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department.
