Funeral services for J.W. Uthe will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at McWilliams Family Funeral Home in Gallatin. Burial will be at Mount Ayr Cemetery, Altamont, with military rites by Frank Frazier VFW Post No. 2172. Visitation: after 11 a.m. today (Wednesday,) at the funeral home, where family visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 tonight. Memorials may be made to Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron.

JW Uthe, 72, Altamont, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veterans Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan.

Mr. Uthe was born Oct. 28, 1929, in Winston. He was a resident of the Cameron Veterans Home.

During the Korean War, Mr. Uthe served in the Army.

Mr. Uthe was a farmer and also worked for the Rock Island Railroad. He lived his entire life in the Altamont and Winston areas.

He was a member of the Altamont Christian Church.

Mr. Uthe was preceded in death by a brother, Fred.

Survivors include two sons, Jerald, Winston, and Glen, Altamont; a daughter, Phyllis Hainey, Albany; a brother, Carl, Winston; three sisters, Marjorie Becker, Pattonsburg, Bessie Dunham, Maysville, and Helen Shaw, Albany; and 13 grandchildren.
