An armed robbery was reported at Viking Truck Stop, Winston, at 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20. Cash and coins amounting to $591.90 were taken during the robbery. Deputy Todd Watson responded to the call and arrived around 11:59 p.m.
According to a truck stop employee, the suspect entered the station flashing a small semi- automatic pistol and wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a black Halloween mask. The suspect placed a blue plastic bag on the counter and told the clerk to “give me all your money.” The clerk did as the robber asked, and the suspect left.
Another witness who was exiting the building also observed the robbery and saw the suspect leaving in a maroon Chevy Camaro with another person driving. The robber was described as a white man, about 5-2 and weighing 150 pounds. The security video was seized as evidence, and the investigation is continuing.
A burglary at a residence on 210th Street was reported to the Sheriff’s Department on March 24 by Diane Winger, who resides in Kansas City. Mrs. Winger stated that she and her husband had left their cabin March 1 with everything in order. Upon returning on March 24, they discovered the front door open and several items missing from the house and outbuildings, including a generator, chain saw, and weed eater. The total estimated value of the stolen items is over $4,000. Chief Deputy Ben Becerra responded to the call, and the scene was processed for latent prints. A padlock and chain were also missing from the double gates at the end of the driveway.
A 37-year-old Kansas City man was charged with failure to appear on a charge of driving while revoked, Class A misdemeanor, on March 22. He posted $1,440 bond.
Billy J. Kinnard, 21, Richmond, was charged with the Class D felony of driving while revoked on March 23. He was involved in an accident on Route MM, and was also charged with DWI, supplying liquor to a person under 21, careless and imprudent driving, and no safety belt. Through a computer check, it was determined that the subject had four prior driving while suspended/revoked convictions. He is being held at Ray County Security Housing. Bond was set at $15,000.
