The Art Topics and Art I classes currently have an exhibit on display at the Daviess County Library until the end of February. The projects came out of a unit on the art of bookmaking. Two main types of binding processes were studied and accomplished following the gathering of found objects. Media used ranged from cereal boxes, ribbon and broken CD’s, to glitter, gel pins, foil and fathers.
The class first made sketchbooks using strap binding and sewn pages complete with pressed textural covers. Then, they made mini books that involved a series of folds using one long sheet of thin paper to create very small pages that tuck within themselves. Personal reelection collages were done on the min covers. Some of the students challenged themselves with inventive binding of their own creation.
