Candidates filing for positions on the Pattonsburg R-2 school board are Greg Brown and Tom Lambert, both incumbents, Richard Mooney, Eugene Thatcher and Craig Lambert.
Superintendent Ron DeShon’s contract was extended through 2005 during the regular meeting of the Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education held Jan. 16.
Teacher’s base salary was moved from $22,500 to $23,000 over the next two years.
Herb Luke was appointed Head Custodian.
Superintendent Ron DeShon presented the board with a letter from the Governor’s office explaining the educational goals of his office. Discussion followed.
After a question regarding written policy/procedures for accidents at or away from school, Mr. DeShon explained that procedures and forms signed by parents were in place and they had been board approved in the past.
A diploma for a student who had graduated in 1998 had not been reissued. The problem would be looked into and corrected.
Parents as Teachers Organization (PTO) meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 31. Topic will be preparing students for college and financial opportunities.
Mr. DeShon presented a financial report and balances.
A motion carried to pay the Guarantee Bank in full by Jan. 31, 2002, for any and all Tax Anticipation borrowing for the past year.
December bills were approved for payment.
The 2002-2003 school calendar was approved as presented.
The importance of all board members going through training before the MSIP review in April of 2003 and dates of training were discussed.
Mr. DeShon explained to the board about some meetings and conversations that he had with MODOT officials about speed limit control near the school. He felt that MODOT had committed
to signs and indicated that a study for the entire town was nearing completion. Speed limit signs should be up soon on US 69 and MO C.
Additional lighting around the school entrance off US 69 and other needed areas was discussed.
Mr. Cornett will follow-up with FEC.
A proposal was presented to the board from the Districts Special Education staff to join the Northwest Missouri Special Education Coop. The Coop currently serves 18 school districts in
and around the Northwest area. The charge is minimal and the districts monies are considered flow through, which means the school will receive all money back. The Coop helps with all
testing needs and will assist in the MSIP review. The Coop will vote on the school’s entrance at a later date. The board moved to request entrance for the 2002-2003 school year.
Information about vocational technical costs for 2002-2003 was discussed. Mr. DeShon will investigate further and report back. The issue was tabled.
A previous board decision on “weighted grades” was rescinded after a report was presented from surrounding district administrators who had been contacted. The report suggested that weighted
grades cause more problems than they solve. Motion carried 5-2.
Elementary Principal Mrs. Brown reported on a teacher’s in-service over curriculum and MAP on Jan. 21. The Daviess County Spelling Bee is Feb. 21.
High School Principal Mr. Wright reported an agent from the FBI met with students and spoke on Internet safety on Jan. 10. Stephen Creech from the Department of Corrections in Jefferson City spoke to the ninth through twelfth grade students on decision making and choices and expected outcomes. The HDC Band Day was at North Harrison on Jan. 19. Junior High Academic meets started and Pattonsburg has won two matches. Courtwarming week will begin Feb. 7 with the game scheduled for Feb. 12. The dance will be held from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday,
Feb. 16.
