The Preceptor Zeta Chi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met January 7 at the home of Linda Adkins. Plans were discussed for the February social. Linda Bridgeman and Peggy Noel reported on their shopping trip for the family we adopted for Christmas. We voted to help send Brooke Carder to Girl’s State. The second payment of the Jean Groom Scholarship was paid to Pam Walker. Linda introduced John Byrd as her program guest. He recited interesting stories about his days as a foreign missionary as well as time spent running a mission in Kansas City. The January 21 meeting was held at the home of Carol Wood. Acting president Linda Adkins read notes and e-mails from Ruth Frost and Nita Cragg. A date was set for the birthday

party at Daviess County Care Center. Sue Gillilan introduced Kevin Noel who gave a program on services he is offering at his new business Noel’s Nursery and Landscaping which includes stonescaping, garden tilling, and setting up water gardens. Kevin will also draw up and age landscaping plans. There will be a large variety of flowers, shrubs and small trees available as well as gardening plants and supplies.

The Lake Viking Homemakers met Jan. 10 at the Clubhouse. Hostesses were Sharon Lutter and Betty Cooksey. After Betty gave grace they sang two songs. The meeting was called to order by President Marge Revels. Roll call was “a favorite gift you have received.” After Pledge of Allegiance, Brenda Stinson read Psalms 40 as the devotional. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved and Mona Brown gave the treasurer’s report. The club appreciates Marion

Larason and her husband Norman for all the hard work they did on the flower garden this past fall. A sign up sheet will be sent around next meeting for members to volunteer caring for the flower garden. Jo Myers is in the hospital and a card was sent around for members to sign for her. The rest of the meeting was spent filling out yearly booklets. The next meeting is Feb. 14 at the lower level of the Clubhouse. It will be the Valentine party with a $5 gift exchange.

The Gallatin Garden Club met at Breadeaux on Jan. 15 with 11 members present. Maxine Linville acted as hostess. A short business meeting was held and hostesses were chosen for the coming year. A game was played and won by Marge and Beverly. No further business. The

meeting adjourned.

Gallatin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution held their Jan. 9 meeting at Breadeaux with six members and one guest present. Vice Regent Jeannie Carpenter led the opening ritual followed by the pledge to the flag of the United States of America and the

American’s Creed. Jeannie Carpenter read the President General’s message and the national Defense Report was presented by Ann Schweizer. Fallis Froman reported that the chapter adopted a ten-year-old child for Christmas. Vice Regent announced that Regent Beverly Ward will present the program on “Bell Tower at Valley Forge” at a later meeting. American History Chairman Betty Huffman reported that all five schools in the county had participated in the American History Essay contest with 81 students writing papers. Plans were discussed for the President’s Day Tea honoring county student winners to be held Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at 1 p.m. in Fellowship Hall at the First Baptist Church in Gallatin. Chairman will present honors to each schools winner and Ann Schweizer Special Awards Chairman will honor winners of Opal Richardson Award, Mary Frances Macy Award and the Mary Grace Weldon Music Award. It is a special day each year honoring the county’s outstanding young people and their parents and guests.

The Knee-Hi 4-H Club met on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Christian Church Fellowship Hall. The meeting was called to order by Jamie Tummons. Pledges were said and roll call was taken. The

minutes from the last meeting were read and the treasurer’s report was given. Business conducted included the passing out of membership cards, changes in project book criteria and deciding what to do for a make-up meeting. It was decided that the club would go bowling on a Sunday in February. Valentines were made for the Daviess County Care Center. The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served.
