Students from FCCLA Region 2 spent their Martin Luther King holiday competing in STAR Events at Chillicothe High School on Jan. 21. Approximately 100 members of FCCLA representing 13 schools competed in the events, including 28 members from the Gallatin chapter. STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are
competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and occupational preparation. STAR Events provide leadership skills that members will use for the rest of their lives.
Categories of competition include: Applied Technology, Career Investigation (new for 2002), Chapter Service Project, Chapter Showcase, Entrepreneurship, Focus on Children, Illustrated Talk, Impromptu Speaking Job Interview, Knowledge Test, Occupational
Child Care (new in 2002), and Parliamentarian Procedure.
Each students receives a rating in either gold, silver or bronze depending on their total score. The top two gold rating winners in each category will advance to state competition during the FCCLA State Leadership Conference April 8-10 in Columbia.

Job Interview; Brittney Hixson, Lindsey Robertson, Whitney Boyd, Kinsey Batson, Taylor Henderson and Katie Patton, Parliamentary Procedure, Jr. Division; Keira Story, Katie Ward, Roxi Davitt, Laura McCann, Kamille Burrell, Kayli Burrell, and Whitney Wright, Parliamentary Procedure, Sr. Division; Jessica Foster, Knowledge Test; and Brook Carder, Impromptu Speaking.
Gallatin members receiving silver medals were Kayce Corwin, Knowledge Test; Whitney Ray, Kara Kloepping and Alisha Beck, Focus on Children.
