With the recent cold wave, area residents have experienced larger utility bills. Many area residents have not taken the proper precautions to keep their energy consumption down, such as

insulating their homes to an R-value of 38.

Green Hills Community Action Agency (GHCAA) has a program which can assist low-income residents with their energy problems. The average homeowner saves 15 to 20% in energy costs after their home has been weatherized.

The Weatherization Program reduces general heating and cooling waste by making home repairs for low-income homeowners and renters who cannot afford to make the repairs themselves.

This can include caulking, repairing or replacing primary doors and windows, replacing cracked or broken glass, weather-stripping, hot water heater jackets, wrapping hot water pipes, insulation

of ceilings and side walls, and sealing holes and cracks in foundations.

GHCAA currently has a budget of $133,662 to weatherize approximately 54 homes in the Green Hills region and is in need of applicants for the Weatherization Program. Interested persons should contact their local GHCAA County Office.
