Races for basketball titles in the HDC are shaping up
Races for basketball titles in the HDC are shaping up but for the
most part pivotal games remain on the horizon as at least four
teams in each of the girls and boys divisions still have something
to say about who wears the 2001-2002 crowns.
The North Daviess girls used 16 of 31 shooting from the foul line
to win an important clash with Grundy County Friday night, 46-44.
The Lady Knights upped their HDC record to 4-0 while the Lady
Panthers took their first league loss of the season. Defending
girls champion North Mercer checks in at 3-0. Pattonsburg’s girls
are 4-1 after a 2-point loss to North Daviess in early December.
North Mercer plays at Pattonsburg next Tuesday. North Daviess and
North Mercer do not meet until Feb. 22 in Jameson.
On the boys side, Grundy County, Gilman City and North Mercer are
all unbeaten, with Tri-County close behind at 4-1 (loss to North
Mercer). Gilman City travels to Grundy County on Jan. 29. North
Mercer plays at Gilman City on Feb. 12, the same night Grundy
travels to Tri-County. Grundy and North Mercer square off Feb. 19
in Mercer.
HDC teams have plenty of opportunities to tangle before season’s
end. Six league teams will participate in the Gilman City
Tournament Jan. 21-26. The HDC conference tournament runs from Feb.
2-9.
