2001 Summary of Annual Performance Reports
Gallatin R-5 School Board members received an early Christmas present during their regular meeting held Dec. 13, when they were told the school had received a perfect score on the 2001 Summary of Annual Performance Reports required by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Gallatin R-5 received 109 points out of 109 points possible one of five school in Northwest Missouri out of about 65 to do so.
The first portion of the summary is based on MAP scores for grades three through five; six through eight; and nine through 11. The tests are over math, social studies, communication arts and science. R-5 earned all of the scoring points possible for each of those grade levels and topics.
“We’re very pleased and proud,” said Superintendent James Ruse. “We met 11 out of 11 performance areas and maximized the points possible. We met all the objectives in retesting as well.”
The district’s status on the performance report means the school has achieved classification as “Accredited With Distinction in Performance,” the highest classification under the Missouri School Improvement Program.
“Now it’s back to the grindstone,” said Mr. Ruse, “as we prepare for next year’s report.”
Mr. Ruse talked with the board at Thursday’s meeting about the financial challenges facing the school in 2001-2002. The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is advising that the school not make salary commitments until May.
The R-5 board also approved the agenda. Bills in the amount of $148,425 were approved for payment. Investments range from 3.6 to 2.4.
The first reading of updated board policies was completed.
During new business, Mr. Ruse reported that workmen’s compensation and property insurance, which was rebid at $53,209, has undergone an increase of $11,941.
The board heard reports from Mr. Ruse and Elementary Principal Kelly Warren on Title One, Gifted, Title Two and Title Six.
Mrs. Warren and High School Principal Mike Burrell reported on attendance and calendar events.
The board was asked for ideas and input for the January calendar.
Grocery bids for the second half of the year went to two separate companies, Sysco and Harker.
Work has been completed on the gym bleachers.
