Stewartsville took a pair of non-conference basketball decisions from Pattonsburg Tuesday night. The Lady Cardinals needed overtime to defeat the PHS girls, 46-45, while the Cardinal boys used a 40- 18 2nd half surge to down the Panthers, 73-38.

Nicole Woodward nailed a 3-pointer to give the Lady Panthers a lead with 13 seconds left but Jamie Wilson hit a basket with 6 seconds on the clock to seal the Lady Cardinal victory. Pattonsburg, now 1- 1 on the season, built a 10-point lead in the 1st half before running into foul trouble. Stewartsville came out in the 3rd quarter with a 24-15 run. The Lady Cards trailed the entire game until the clock ticked under the one minute mark.

“Our defense struggled tonight, said PHS coach Shelly Sears. “We didn’t get a hand in the shooter’s face and they shot the ball well because of it.

Nena Woodward led 3 Panthers in double figures with a game-high 16 points. Nicole Woodward scored 15 points and Gina Burns added 10. Nena Woodward also pulled down 7 rebounds and Bess Sweiger dished out 5 assists for the PHS girls.

Tyler Miller scored 16 points to lead the Panther boys efforts. Aaron deJong added 13 for the 1-1 PHS boys.
