Dollar General to employ up to 25

The Dollar General Store in Gallatin will be holding interviews for both part-time and permanent positions between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, according to Area Manager Rosa Lambert.
Temporary positions will be available for a set up crew to unload fixtures and equipment for the inside of the store, then stock shelves with merchandise as it arrives. Work is scheduled to begin on Nov. 7 and will continue until the store opens to the public. Up to 25 people may be hired.
Permanent positions include assistant manager and head clerk/third key. A part-time clerk may be hired depending how busy the store is.
The store manager, LeJean Hanes of Trenton, has been promoted from within Dollar General.
“LeJean is fun and hard working,” said Mrs. Lambert. “Gallatin couldn’t ask for better. She’s been with Dollar General a long time.”
Interviews will be held at the new store location. In the event the store is still under construction, the location of an alternative meeting place in Gallatin will be posted.
The job pays above minimum wage. Dollar General’s benefit package includes 401, paid vacation, holiday pay, and major medical insurance, which is also offered to part-time help.
Applications may also be left at any Dollar General Store in the area and will be forwarded to Mrs. Lambert. She is area manager for 19 stores, including five in St. Joe, two in Maryville, and stores as far south as Marcelene.
The Dollar General Store is tentatively scheduled to open in mid November with a Grand Opening celebration planned for the end of the month.
“We had a good feeling about Gallatin. We felt it would be a good location,” said Larry Wilkinson of Company Growth and Development for Dollar General.
He added he believed the store will be “Good for the company and good for the community.”
Dollar General is among the fastest growing retail stores in the world with about two stores going up each day. The retailer chain includes more than 5,400 stores in more than 25 states, primarily in the South and Midwest.
Mr. Wilkinson said Dollar General stores tend to attract other businesses to small communities, rather than drawing business away.
