City Administrator Jason Helton gave an update on the sewer project to the Gallatin Board of Aldermen during their regular meeting held on Oct. 22 at city hall. The Department of Natural Resources is expected to issue a construction permit at any time.

Mr. Helton reported on staffing in the Natural Gas Department. Eight applications have been received to date for the full-time vacancy.

Gallatin Police Chief Jim Wycoff reported that cases are being developed on recent property damage and vandalism activity. He talked with the board about difficulties experienced by the department in working with area juvenile authorities. Staffing efforts to fill the fourth full-time position continue.

The board reviewed and discussed a first draft of FY2002 Utility Fund revenues and expenditures.

Bills in the amount of $127,467.53 were approved for payment.

During comments by Aldermen Norma Griffin thanked the street crews for quickly repairing a damaged stop sign at a dangerous intersection.

Bob Snidow reported a number of unmown and dangerous properties and particularly one following a phone call from a resident.

Gene Schweizer asked the board to reconsider providing a resident inspector separate from hiring an engineering firm to do the sewer project inspection. He also asked the board to revisit the disconnection of utility service at a specific address, as requested by the customer.

Shonna Morrison reported that a resident expressed their appreciation to the street crews for repairs on Elm Street.

Mayor Davis inquired about arrangements for the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting after Thanksgiving Day. He said he was glad to see the sewer project moving forward.

The board entered closed session at 7:20 and adjourned at 7:25.
