Nine of 12 spots on the Class 1A, All-District 13 softball honor squad have been filled by athletes who played in last week’s district title game. District champion and sectional qualifier Pattonsburg picked up 5 selections on the all-district teams announced last Friday, while district runnerup North Daviess was awarded 4 spots on the select honor squad.

Seniors Nena Woodward, Ashely Brown and Gina Burns led the Lady Panthers to their first ever district title. Woodward batted .431 with 31 hits, 2 home runs, 43 runs scored, 18 rbi, a .632 on-base percentage and 31 stolen bases in 31 attempts — all team highs. Brown hat 13 hits, 16 runs scored, a pair of triples, a .5-6 on- base percentage and 6 steals in as many attempts. Burns drove in 11 runs, scored 15, was perfect in 4 stolen base attempts and made only 2 errors in 122 innings at first base for a .979 fielding percentage.

Pattonsburg’s sophomore pitcher, Nicole Woodward, finished with a 10-12 record, a 2.76 earned run average and 166 strikeouts in 22 complete games. At the plate, she batted .322 with 19 hits, 24 runs, 17 rbi, 4 triples and 14 stolen bases and registered a .622 on-base percentage. Freshman second baseman Chelsey Lowrey batted .242 with 15 hits, 25 runs, 18 rbi, a pair of doubles and 5 stolen bases. She had a .475 on-base percentage and .889 fielding percentage.

The District 13 honors squad also included Darcie Iddings, Mandy Williams, Katrina Forbach and Carah Carr of North Daviess; Sam Hodges of Tri-County, Stephanie Caldwell of Winston and Laura Zimmerman of Gilman City.
