Jennifer Smith, 17, Maysville, received moderate injuries in a one-vehicle accident about two miles east of Altamont in Daviess County, on Thursday, Oct. 11, at about 9:35 p.m., according to a report by the Missouri Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred as Jennifer Smith was westbound on Hwy. 6 and swerved to miss a deer.

The vehicle traveled off the south side of the road, struck an embankment and went through a fence. The vehicle went airborne and overturned several times, coming to rest on its wheels in a field.

Ms. Smith was taken by Daviess County Ambulance to Heartland Regional Medical Center. She was wearing a safety belt.

The 1995 Pontiac was totaled and towed by Bridgeman’s Wrecker of Altamont.

The accident was investigated by Trp. B.L. Sweiger, assisted by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department.
