The Missouri Department of Conservation will hold the annual fall driving tour through the Poosey Conservation Area on Sunday, Oct. 14.

This will be the 15th year that the Poosey Conservation Area has opened its roads to the public to view many aspects of the Department’s management, in addition to an up close spectacular fall color display.

Various resource management scenarios will be explained at stops. Included are prairie grasses, noxious weed eradication processes, crop fields, old fields, wildlife food and habitat management. Riparian or stream side management and fisheries will also be highlighted. Tree plantings and woodland management in various stages of growth will be explained and viewed.

Visitors will see areas of active management, timber markings and areas that have started to be managed. There will be resource managers at different stops to explain management techniques or answer questions.

The tour route will allow you to drive into the historical area known as “Poosey.” Historic areas will be highlighted and the history of folklore explained at stops such as the “Panther’s Den.” The roads will be graded and mostly rocked for easy travel, however we recommend 4-wheel drive and high clearance vehicles.

The tour route will take approximately one hour to complete without stops. Allow more time for stops and discussion.
