The 68th Annual Elderly Persons Dinner and program was held at the Altamont City Hall on Sept. 26 with Velma Talbott presiding. This year’s theme was “Let’s Go Sightseeing.” Lots of pretty scenes of pictures were posted on the hall walls. Favors of little cars were given each guest.
The invocation was by Pastor Marilyn Dorst. Ina McFee presided at the guest book. Juanita Burke gave the response after the welcome to all.
The afternoon program was by Jim Hager and his band “Runnin’ Country.” Marvin Frost also joined with his harmonica. A gift was given to 94 year-old Frankie Ward, the oldest lady present. Lillian Morrison was also present at the age of 93. Eldest gentleman was Glenn Everman of Cameron, age 86.
Several door prizes were given by the committee. The memorial was “Dear Hearts and Gentle People.” A back drop of hearts made by Anita Malo was in memory of Ina Naylor, John Stigers, Vuna Frazier, Elsie Stapp, Lawrence Beck, Ray Barker, Grace Bristow, Betty Branon, Marjorie Burris, Floyd Lollar, Pauline Heldenbrand, all formerly of the Altamont area; Bernly Baxter, brother of Lillian Morrison was also included. Gentle thoughts were given by Francie and Susie for each person whose name was read. Nancy Schoonover sang “Dear Hearts and Gentle People” for the closing.
