Funeral services for Rev. Elmer Evans, a former pastor at Gallatin, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service, where friends may call after 1 p.m. today. The family suggests memorial gifts to the Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church. The body will be removed from
Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service to arrive at the church one hour prior to the service.
Rev. Elmer D. Evans, 91, St. Joseph, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at his home.
Rev. Evans was born in Ridgeway. He lived in St. Joseph since 1960. He attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, and Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
Rev. Evans started his ministry while on the farm and pastored rural churches in the area. In 1960 he served as Pastor at Wesley United Methodist Church, then served in Gallatin in 1976. In 1970, he served Marvin McMurray United Methodist Church in St. Joseph, and in 1975, he served as Associate Pastor at Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Joseph, retiring in 1979.
He was an ordained elder in the Missouri West Conference of the United Methodist Church and a member of Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church, St. Joseph.
On Dec. 21, 1930, he married Ruby Maxine Booth in Bethany. She survives of the home.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Ralph; and one sister, Marjorie Harrold.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte R. Marrs of St. Joseph, and Carol E. Carpino of Pittsburg, Kansas; a son, Daniel K. Evans of St. Joseph; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
