Dorothy L. (White) Neely, 78, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at a St. Joseph hospital following a lengthy illness of cancer.

Funeral services for Dorothy Neely, mother of Dr. James W. of Cameron, were held Sunday at Breit & Hawkins Funeral Home, Savannah. Burial was at Savannah Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society
Dorothy L. (White) Neely, 78, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at a St. Joseph hospital following a lengthy illness of cancer.
Born in Crowley, Colo., she lived there for a year. She resided in the St. Joseph area before 1958 and in Kansas City, from 1958 until returning to St. Joseph in 1986.
Mrs. Neely was a graduate of the Rosendale high school, and earned a bachelor of science degree from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville; and a master’s degree from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg. She also had 30 hours toward a specialist degree.
Mrs. Neely taught at the New Hope and Murphy Schools, both in Andrew County; the Waldo School in DeKalb County; and in Forest City. For 24 years, she was a teacher in the Consolidated School District No. 4 at Grandview.
On May 20, 1944, she married Dr. John T. Neely. He survives of the home.
She was a member of the Hickman Mills Community Christian Church, South Kansas City; Missouri State Teacher’s Association; St. Joseph Retired Teacher’s Association; Delta Kappa Gamma sorority; St. Joseph Garden Club and State Parent-Teacher Association. She also was a
volunteer at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.
Mrs. Neely was preceded in death by two brothers, Loyal and Bill White; and a sister, Ila Ramseier.
Other survivors include one other son, Robert E., Grandview; a daughter, Ruth Ann Replogle, Washington; and 10 grandchildren.
