The 7th Annual William Jewell College Basketball Coaching Clinic will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Mabee Center on campus. The clinic times are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s clinic will feature former WJC teammates Homer Drew and Larry Holley.
Drew’s topics will include pre-sets and other offensive specials as well as a discussion of `how to survive your job’. Holley’s topics will be offensive pre-sets, press offenses and out-of-bounds plays. The morning session will be a classroom setting with on the floor demonstrations in the afternoon.
The cost of the clinic is $25 (includes lunch) and all proceeds go to the William Jewell Men’s Basketball program. Clinic attendees may attend a 7:30 to 9 a.m. practice session of the WJC men’s team at no additional charge.
Drew is beginning his 14th season as highly successful coach at Valparaiso University (IN). Valpo captured its 6th Mid-Continent Conference regular season championship in 2001 and played in its 7th straight Mid-Con Tournament title game. Valpo has won 20 or more games 7 of the last 8 seasons. Coach Drew has received 8 Coach of the Year Awards and is a member of 3 athletic halls of fame, including William Jewell.
Holley is entering his 23rd season at Jewell. The Cardinals have won 25 or more games 10 times during his tenure and have appeared in 6 of the last 10 NAIA II National Tournaments with 4 of those teams reaching the Final Four. He currently ranks #2 among all NAIA II coaches with 579 career wins. Coach Holley has received 12 Coach of the Year Awards including the 1996 NAIA National Coach of the Year Award. He is a member of 2 basketball coaches halls of fame: the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Drew and Holley played together 3 years at Jewell in the 60s including a pair of conference championship seasons. Drew was a 3- time NAIA Honorable Mention All-American while Holley was an All- Conference and All-District performer.
