The Gallatin Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), including the Gallatin Chapter, once again reminds all citizens to celebrate the signing of the constitution of the United States during Constitution Week Sept. 17-23.

Bells across America commemorated the signing on Tuesday. The 225th anniversary of the signing of the constitution provides an opportunity to all citizens to reaffirm the ideals the framers of the Constitution had in 1787 by studying the constitution and reflecting on the privilege of being an American with all the rights and responsibilities which that privilege involves.

The DAR encourages area students to express their patriotism by entering the American History Essay Contest 2001-2002. The topic is: “As editor of the Philadelphia Gazette, interview at least two signers of the Declaration of Independence and write an article for the July 5, 1776 edition.”

All grades fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth students in a public, private, or parochial school, or in a sanctioned home study program, are eligible.
